Looking down the line

Down the line.

from the train window

It’s not easy getting a good shot from a train moving down the line. Now, I am definitely not saying this is a good shot, but it does tell the story of how cold this January morning was. It was somewhere south of -10. Quite chilly!

We set off from Istanbul heading to Sophia on the overnight “Orient Express”. There are many different orient express’ so happily nothing bad happened on ours. Unless the middle of the night customs stop counts that is always murder on the sleepless .

We were well on track in Bulgaria and nearing Sophia when we stopped.

Outside the train a shot from nowhere

There was nothing much there and it was bitter outside, but as there had been some kind of failure which they knew wouldn’t get fixed any time soon the doors opened. We saw people outside! Stretching thier legs and taking in the morning air. I joined them.

Off the train

Standing on the line

Not knowing how long we had or when the issue would be fixed I took what shots I could. I kicked myself afterwards as this was just a quick weekend trip so I didn’t have a camera bag with me. Maybe I should add that the rules always carry a decent camera. I am one of those who are never really happy with a smart phone camera, but when images tell stories does it really matter?

Looking down the line

Looking back down the line

This was one of the problems our train had caused it was sitting over the points. So looking back down the line you can see nothing was able to move. It must have been the cold weather that triggered the stop

Looking down the line

Looking down the line in front was where the real image was. Still my favourite from this brief morning stopover. You never know when an image will present itself. So, always be ready. In this case to jump off a train and see what you can shoot.
